Laine Finnish Knits is a fascinating one-off issue of Laine Magazine dedicated entirely to contemporary Finnish knitwear design. Featuring 18 knitting patterns from Finland’s top designers, interesting articles, and beautiful photography, this special edition is a true collector’s item!

The knits were created by the following designers: Jenny Ansah, Lee Esselström, Henna Haarala, Ronja Hakalehto, Anna Heino, Anna Johanna, Veera Jussila, Susanna Kaartinen, Meiju Kallio, Henna Ketonen, Jenna Kostet, Niina Laitinen, Paula Narkiniemi, Laura Pajula & Liisa Saarenmaa (Neuloosisko), Tiia Reho and Veera Välimäki.

Finnish Knits is a treat for sock lovers, as it features three lovely sock patterns. Ronja Hakalehto’s Taipale socks combine retro colours from Finnish nature with some traditional Finnish colourwork patterns, whereas the colourwork pattern of Henna Haarala’s Olga socks was inspired by traditional motifs in lace doilies. The Mielenrauha socks by Niina Laitinen feature a cable-and-lace pattern and knit up fast.

Many patterns in this issue have beautiful Finnish names: “vuokko” is the Finnish name for the anemone flower species, “nietos” is Finnish for “snowdrift”, and “Usva” means “mist” in Finnish. But Paula Narkiniemi, the designer of our cover knit, came up with the most fun pattern name: The Ridge Forrester sweater got its name from Paula’s childhood TV favourite, the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful!
